Five men of Indian descent have been charged in Canada after police found a stolen trailer carrying cannabis products worth more than $2 million in Mississauga.The bust occurred on April 15 when York Regional Police officers from the Auto Theft Unit were patrolling the area around McLaughlin Road and Highway 401.
They found a trailer that had been reported stolen from the Niagara Region and is believed to be carrying a large shipment of cannabis products intended for delivery to licensed dispensaries.Officers identified several men in the immediate area who were connected to the stolen trailer, CTV News reported. All five were arrested at the scene. During the search of the suspects, police also found two firearms.The accused have been identified as 21-year-old Manveer Singh, 32-year-old Sarbjit Singh, 21-year-old Dilkhap Singh, 25-year-old Karan Kumar and 23-year-old Jaiskavan Malhi.
All but Kumar are from Brampton, while Kumar is from Hamilton, police said.The group now faces a total of 33 charges combined, including theft of more than $5,000 involving a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, along with firearm-related offences.Police said there may be additional victims connected to the case, and are urging anyone with information to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
