Fire and smoke rise across the sky: A video shows the aftermath of the US strike on an ammunition depot in Isfahan, Iran

The aftermath of the US-Israeli strikes

Videos circulating on social media appear to show the aftermath of a US or Israeli raid on a facility believed to house an Iranian missile base in the city of Baharestan, located in the Islamic Republic’s Isfahan province.

The footage shows huge columns of smoke rising into the sky, along with visible fireballs.

It was not immediately clear whether these were new strikes or whether the complex had been targeted during the attacks on Tuesday evening. On Tuesday, the United States and Israel struck steel complexes in central and southwestern Iran, damaging production units, Iranian media reported. Fars News Agency reported, citing a company statement, that “initial assessments indicate that large-scale attacks occurred, with severe damage and destruction to production units” at the Mobarakeh Steel Company complex – one of the largest Iranian companies – in the central province of Isfahan. The statement added that the attacks also hit one of the company’s subsidiaries, Sefid Dasht Steel Company, located in the southwestern province of Jaharmahal and Bakhtiari. The facility “suffered damage and losses.” The Isfahan unit was also targeted on Friday, along with steel factories in Khuzestan in southwestern Iran.Steel is a strategically vital material, essential for industrial and military production, including the development of missiles, drones and ships.

Iran has been at war with the United States and Israel since February 28, when air strikes killed the country’s then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, sparking a conflict that has since spread across the Middle East. He was succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei. However, Mojtaba’s whereabouts remain unknown, and he is believed to be recovering from war-related injuries.(With AFP inputs)
