United Arab Emirates: Indian schools announce dates for the new academic year, and conduct lessons online

Indian schools across the UAE have announced their start dates for the 2026-2027 academic year. While a few of them have already started remote classes on Monday, the majority of them will start the curriculum on April 6, 2026.

Schools have chosen a hybrid model of synchronous and asynchronous learning, allowing students to balance live sessions with self-paced activities. The schedule remains light with morning assemblies, new teacher inductions, orientation sessions and student leadership induction ceremonies.

Organized lesson plans

The live lessons delivered to all classes are structurally planned to be interactive, making use of digital tools and multimedia resources.

Fatima Martin, Principal and CEO of GEMS New Millennium School, told Khaleej Times: “Teaching and learning systems, assessments, routines and student support continue as planned, ensuring continuity and knowledge for students, staff and parents.” Schools have invested in enhancing technology support for children, ensuring seamless access to devices and platforms. Teachers have been trained to manage any disruptions during live lessons, and provide support to students to continue learning well.

Support for parents, teachers and students

Chitra Sharma, Principal of JSS Private School Dubai, revealed that the first few weeks will focus on diagnostic and formative assessments, enabling teachers to gauge students’ readiness and provide targeted support, ensuring that no gaps in learning emerge. Schools ensure that parents and students receive clear and timely communications, with hyperlinked timetables that allow direct access to timetables and virtual classrooms. Nofal Ahmed, General Manager of the Woodlem Educational Foundation, also shared that the Foundation will conduct training sessions via Zoom for parents to help them help their children at home. Previously, CBSE had canceled all final exams for Class 10 and 12 due to the ongoing regional conflict, after initially postponing them. The uncertainty created a cloud of constant anxiety for parents and students alike, as they worried about their results and their future. While there were earlier hopes for the resumption of classes in schools, the UAE Ministry of Education announced that classes will continue online for all nurseries, kindergartens, government and private schools and universities until April 17, 2026.
