Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, called on citizens and residents to raise the UAE flag on homes, buildings and institutions. The message was shared via his official X account, in the run-up to a national moment affirming unity and collective identity across the country.Sheikh Mohammed said, “The United Arab Emirates entered the recent crisis united… and emerged from it more united, cohesive and loyal… citizens and residents… young and old… military and civilians… governmental and economic sectors… all of them united under the banner and flag of the state,” calling for broad participation in the national parade.
UAE tradition of celebrating the national flag
This directive comes as part of the UAE’s broader tradition of celebrating national occasions, especially Flag Day and National Day celebrations, where residents are encouraged to clearly express national pride.Such calls usually precede key dates on the national calendar, where leadership messages set the tone for public engagement. The final appeal continues this pattern, positioning the raising of the flag as a timely and symbolic event.
Over the years, these moments have evolved into patriotic displays, with buildings, streets and homes decorated in the national colors of the UAE.
Simple action, powerful message
Residents have been encouraged to place the UAE flag in prominent places, including rooftops, balconies and doorways, while institutions and businesses are expected to ensure a visible display across offices and public spaces.Unlike official celebrations, the initiative relies on daily participation, transforming both private and public spaces into expressions of national pride. With flags rising across neighborhoods and the city skyline, the group photo is expected to reflect a shared sense of belonging among the UAE’s diverse population.
Strengthening the unity of the nation
Beyond its visual impact, the invitation highlights the UAE leadership’s continued focus on unity in a multicultural society. The raising of the flag serves as a quiet but powerful reminder of the country’s founding values and forward-looking vision. It connects citizens and residents alike to a common narrative – one of progress, stability and cohesion. In a country built on diversity, such gestures play a key role in reinforcing a common identity, making the message timely and lasting.
