Dubai-born Indian founder gets trolled over 'Long Live UAE' post: 'Mocking NRIs won't help'

Amid a huge debate on social media about NRIs in Dubai and whether the Indian government should spend money to evict these NRIs who are criticizing India, founder Amrit Shenava faced massive trolling when he sided with NRIs and Dubai and said that mocking NRIs in Dubai has no meaning as many of these NRIs are second or third generation NRIs – they were born in Dubai and it was not their decision to leave India.

Explosions were reported in Dubai, Doha and Manama as Iran targeted US assets in the Gulf. Many social media outlets welcomed the plight of NRIs in Dubai and mocked them for leaving India.

“My heart goes out to everyone in the UAE. Dubai is my home because it is the city where I was born and also where I spent my entire childhood and adolescence. It is unfortunate to see people making fun and making jokes about Dubai. This is the time when we figure out how we can help our fellow Indians in the UAE,” Shenava wrote.

Shinava was attacked and described as a fake “Emirati”. “Stick to your coconut oil regimen because this product is so great in Indiana,” one wrote. Shanafa said that he was born in the United Arab Emirates and never claimed to be an Emirati. He moved to the US for his bachelor’s degree and then moved to India in 2023 to create a startup. “I did not move to Dubai. I was actually born in Dubai, meaning I was born there. I lived a very comfortable life and had access to the best healthcare system, best education system, best infrastructure and the list is endless. Thanks to the government’s initiative to promote entrepreneurship and coding, I was able to create a bunch of apps and even experiment with startup ideas in my early teens,” he wrote in response to those who were calling him a slave and a toilet cleaner.
