Drone panic over Moscow: Four airports closed, nearly 60 drones shot down

Russia announced that it shot down 59 drones on Sunday.

Russian authorities announced that Moscow’s four airports were closed briefly on Monday, after Russian air defense systems intercepted dozens of drones that were targeting the capital.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that 59 drones had been shot down, while Russia’s aviation watchdog temporarily suspended operations at all four airports to ensure aviation safety.Read also| Black rain and smoke over Moscow: Russia and Ukraine trade bombs, drones and missiles as war intensifies

The airport closure came amid continued missile and drone attacks across the border between Russia and Ukraine. On Sunday evening, Russia bombed the Odessa region in southern Ukraine with an Iskander ballistic missile, killing one person and wounding three others, according to the region’s governor, Oleh Kiper. The strike hit an agricultural facility in the Odessa region, causing fires in vehicles and fuel storage tanks. Ukrainian authorities said emergency services were deployed to contain the fire and assess the damage.
