Iran on Thursday rejected US President Donald Trump’s peace proposal, claiming that the United States violated three key provisions in the plan even before negotiations began. He described the ceasefire as “unreasonable” and said that Iran has a “deep historical suspicion” towards America, pointing to repeated violations of all forms of obligations.The three violations include non-compliance with the first clause regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon, the entry of a drone into Iranian airspace, and depriving Iran of its right to enrichment.“The deep historical mistrust we have toward the United States stems from its repeated violations of all forms of commitments, a pattern that has unfortunately repeated itself again. As the President of the United States clearly stated in his book ‘The Truth’, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 10-point proposal is a ‘practical basis for negotiation’ and the main framework for these talks.
A statement shared by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Qalibaf said: “3 provisions of this proposal have been violated so far.”The three violating items as stated in the statement are:
- Failure to comply with the first paragraph of the ten-point proposal on a ceasefire in Lebanon, a commitment that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also explicitly referred to and declared “an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately”;
- A drone entered Iranian airspace and was destroyed in the city of Lar in Fars Province, in clear violation of the clause prohibiting any other violation of Iranian airspace.
- Denying Iran’s right to enrichment, which is included in Clause 6 of the framework.
“Now, the ‘practical basis for negotiation’ has been openly and clearly violated, even before negotiations begin. In such a situation, a bilateral ceasefire or bilateral negotiations are unreasonable,” the report concluded.
Earlier, the head of the Iranian nuclear agency said that protecting Tehran’s right to enrich uranium is “essential” to the ceasefire talks.
The Associated Press quoted Mohammad Eslami as saying: “It is part of the necessary (things) that no one is talking about,” referring to the United States’ refusal to recognize enrichment as part of Iran’s 10-point plan for a permanent ceasefire.The United States and Iran are scheduled to hold talks in Islamabad later this weekend.Both the United States and Iran announced their success following the ceasefire agreement. However, additional drones and missiles struck Iran and Gulf Arab states even after the agreement was announced. On the other hand, Israel escalated its attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon on Wednesday, targeting commercial and residential areas in Beirut. The raids marked the bloodiest day of the fighting, killing at least 182 people, while emergency teams continued their efforts throughout the night to locate people trapped under the rubble.
