Tommaso Cioni, the husband of her eldest daughter Annie Guthrie, is receiving a lot of media attention as the search for Nancy Guthrie begins.

Savannah Guthrie’s sister Annie (R) and her husband Tommaso Cioni. (Facebook/Jolene Marie)It started with News Nation journalist Ashley Banfield claiming that Tommaso Cioni could be the “prime suspect” in the case. Interest increased when police raided their homes on Saturday and Sunday. In a marathon one-hour search Sunday, investigators saw septic tanks in the home and photographed evidence in rooms.

Although authorities have not named a suspect or person of interest, speculation is rife that a search operation is underway at the Cione residence. And along with that many false claims are also circulating on social media.

One such claim concerns Tommaso Cioni’s alleged gambling problem. Many posts on social media claim that Sioni had a gambling problem, which may have led him and Annie Guthrie into financial trouble. Some posts also claimed that Tommaso Cioni was in debt, allegedly losing money gambling.

However, no confirmed reports suggest that Tommaso Cioni had a gambling problem or had many debts.

Here’s a Facebook post falsely claiming that Tommaso Cioni had a gambling problem and owed $50 million to a Mexican casino.

The real motive behind the search is revealedNo details have been released about the search of Annie Guthrie and Savannah Guthrie’s residence that took place Saturday and Sunday. Reporters were blocked outside the gate and reports say agents took pictures in the room and took a steel briefcase inside the house.

Details of the evidence-gathering operation are now being clarified. A former SWAT captain explained to the Daily Mail why investigators may be looking at the septic tank.

“A lot of people forget that having a septic tank means the wastewater doesn’t go into the city sewer, it goes into the tank,” says former SWAT Josh Shearard. “So, someone might have flushed something that would get rid of it, but instead it’s actually accumulating in the septic tank.”

Shirrard added that the steel briefcase is a celebrity case — a digital forensic evidence collection tool.
