Who is Kash Patel?

Patel is Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) following his confirmation hearing on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Patel was previously Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense (DoD), and is also a well-known defense attorney and federal prosecutor. During President Trump’s first term, he served as senior counsel to the House Intelligence Committee.

Patel graduated from the University of Richmond, holds a degree in international law from University College London (UCL), and holds a JD from Pace University School of Law. In addition, he holds another degree in International Law from UCL.

Where does Cash Patel come from?

Patel was born in Garden City, New York. He is the son of immigrants, and his parents are originally from India and they taught him the Hindu faith. Patel paid a loving tribute to his parents in a magazine op-ed Washington Street Journal.

In it, he shared that he would represent: “Not just my father’s dreams, but the hopes of millions of Americans who stand up for justice, fairness, and the rule of law. My commitment to these principles is deeply rooted in my family’s history. My father fled Idi Amin’s genocidal dictatorship in Uganda. My mother was born in Tanzania. They married in India and I immigrated to New York, where I was born and raised in a crowded household that included my father’s seven siblings, two spouses, and six children.”

His parents first immigrated to Canada to escape anti-Indian persecution in the 1970s.

Is Kash Patel married?

Patel is not married. Although he has kept his personal life largely private, it was reported in February 2025 that he was in a relationship with his girlfriend Wilkins.

Wilkins is a country singer and political commentator who has been dating Patel since at least 2023. Patel is 46, Wilkins is 27, and has increasingly emerged into the public eye alongside his rise to the position of FBI director.
