Candace Owens has sparked a new online controversy after responding to a New York Times report about President Donald Trump’s phone call with Charlie Kirk before Kirk’s death. Shortly after Owens shared her thoughts on X, Laura Loomer accused her of suggesting that Trump was responsible for the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
However, Owens did not make this claim directly.
The discussion began after a New York Times article by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan reported that Trump was unhappy with the criticism surrounding his handling of the past files controversy. The report said Trump called Charlie Kirk after a Turning Point USA event where speakers criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi’s response to the case. Owens then linked this report to her own timeline of events surrounding Kirk’s death, prompting a wave of online reaction.
While many users supported Owens, others strongly disagreed with her comments. So far, neither Donald Trump nor Erica Kirk have publicly responded to Owens’ recent statements.
Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Candace Owens’ post about Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk is getting attention
After the New York Times report surfaced, Candace Owens shared a post on X discussing the reported phone call between Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk.
“It is very interesting to learn that Donald Trump called Charlie and berated him about his coverage of the Epstein files. On July 12, the day after I continually insisted that the decision to kill Charlie be made on our schedule,” Owens wrote.
The wording caught attention online. However, Owens did not directly accuse Trump of killing Charlie Kirk. Instead, she referenced her theory and timeline while discussing the reported call.

In a separate post, Loomer mocked Owens’ comments and questioned her previous suggestions about who might be involved. Owens has previously raised questions about the official story surrounding Kirk’s assassination, but many of its claims remain unproven.
