Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday (February 11, 2026) later mourned At least eight people have been killed in a shooting at a school in British Columbiaincluding the suspect. Canadian officials said two people were found dead in a nearby home.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada at a “moment of deep sorrow”.

“Deeply shocked by the horrific shooting in Canada. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish the injured a speedy recovery. India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada at this moment of deep sorrow,” the post read.

According to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) release, they found seven people dead, including the suspect who died of “self-inflicted wounds”. An eighth person died while being transported to the hospital and two others died at the home, which authorities believe were linked to the attack.

RCMP say more than 25 people, including two others, have been injured after a shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

After the incident, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his devastation at the horrific shooting in a country where school shootings are rare.

“I am devastated by today’s horrific shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC. My prayers and deepest condolences go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones to this horrific act of violence,” Mr Carney said in the post. X.

In a statement, the municipality of Tumbler Ridge said: “There are no words for the heartbreak our community is feeling tonight.”
