Britney Spears According to media reports, Toxic has sold the rights to her music catalog, which includes hits like Baby One More Time and Gimme More.
Music publisher Primary Wave reportedly bought the rights to the pop star’s music on December 30. TMZ reported Tuesday, citing legal documents. An unnamed source “familiar with the deal” confirmed the sale The New York Times.
Terms of the sale and the price of the catalog were not disclosed, but such deals have been lucrative for artists in recent years.
High-profile artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Shakira, Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake have sold their catalogs. Springsteen sold his songs to Sony in 2021 for $500m, and the company bought Queen’s catalog in 2024 for more than $1bn.
Spears has released nine studio albums since her debut in 1999 and is one of the best-selling female artists. She has been at the forefront of pop music for nearly two decades, and her personal struggles have been widely publicized.
The 44-year-old spent nearly 14 years in a conservatorship that required her to pay lawyers to manage her life and was not allowed to make decisions about her personal affairs, career or finances. A judge Cancelled Legal arrangement in 2021.
