British TikToker accused of murder in Dubai could face death penalty; She claims she acted in self-defense

A British TikTok influencer has been charged with murder in Dubai after the stabbing death of a British man she had traveled to the UAE to meet. The BBC reported that the 23-year-old woman, Brooke George, from Gravesend, Kent, denied intentionally killing her partner, and said she acted in self-defense during an alleged violent assault.George was arrested in the early hours of June 22 and remains in custody in Dubai. Under UAE law, a conviction for premeditated murder can result in the death penalty.According to Detained in Dubai, cited by the BBC, George and the 26-year-old met online before the relationship began. The group claims the relationship became abusive during their second visit to Dubai.Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, said George claimed her partner became controlling, took her passport and physically assaulted her.

The organization said that George told investigators that she feared for her life and used a kitchen knife to defend herself during the incident.Detained in Dubai urged the UAE authorities to release George on bail and investigate the case in the context of alleged domestic violence. The organization also said it should have legal representation, medical care and full British consular assistance while the investigation continues.

George also claimed that she was forced to undress in front of male police officers while in detention, without a female officer present. A woman detained in Dubai described this allegation as very sad, and said it raised concerns about her treatment. Her mother, Teresa George, said that she noticed a noticeable change in her daughter’s behavior during the second trip to Dubai. She said Brooke appeared unusually calm and fearful in the hours before the accident, and later called her in a panicked state with visible facial injuries.“She was absolutely terrified,” her mother said, adding that she believed her daughter had been trying to return to the UK before the accident.Stirling said family members and friends became increasingly concerned that George might be lured to Dubai under false pretenses, citing what they described as changes in her partner’s behavior and George’s frequent expressions of fear. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has confirmed it is assisting a British woman detained in the UAE.A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are in contact with a British woman detained in the UAE, supporting her family, and are in contact with the local authorities.”The case is still under investigation by authorities in Dubai. George was charged, but no verdict was reached, and the allegations made by her and Detained in Dubai were not tested in court.
