Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, brother of King Charles, has moved out of his palatial home, a royal source confirmed on Wednesday, following damaging new revelations about his links to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Former Prince Andrew at Westminster Cathedral in London. (AFP)The 65-year-old former prince had hoped to remain at Royal Lodge, his Windsor home, for decades, but was moved under cover of darkness on Monday to a cottage on the monarch’s Norfolk estate, Sandringham, the Sun newspaper reported.

“With the latest batch of Epstein files it was clear to him that it was time to go,” the Sun quoted a friend as saying.

“It was so humiliating for him to leave that he chose to do it under cover of darkness.”

Charles stripped Andrew of his title in October and said he would be removed after details of his ongoing relationship with Epstein were revealed.

Raja also said that he has sympathy for the victims.

New files related to Epstein released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday include emails that suggest Andrew maintained regular contact with Epstein more than two years after he was convicted of child sex crimes.

She has denied wrongdoing with Epstein and previously refused to maintain a relationship with the financier after Epstein’s 2008 conviction, apart from a 2010 visit to New York to end their relationship.
