A 24-year-old Sikh man has pleaded guilty after videos showed a reckless shooting from a Jeep on Crown land in Ontario, prompting a police investigation and firearms charges.Gurkanwal Singh pleaded guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom to a charge of careless use of a firearm after authorities linked him to videos showing unsafe weapons being discharged in the Georgian Bay area. The case first attracted attention in 2025 after videos went viral on social media showing several men getting out of a car on a bridge near Bracebridge and firing long guns into the air. Ontario Provincial Police described this behavior as “negligent and unsafe.”The court heard that on February 3, 2025, officers responded to a call in the Town of Georgian Bay, where they found a Jeep stuck on Crown land. Singh was identified as the driver and firearms were discovered inside the vehicle.Investigators later obtained screenshots from an Instagram account linked to Singh. According to the court, the video clips showed him using multiple firearms and firing shots from inside the same car in a reckless manner.
The court proceedings also revealed that Singh obtained a possession and acquisition licence, known as PAL, while living in Canada on a work permit.Judge Edward Carleton questioned why Singh obtained a firearms license and purchased the weapons.
The defense lawyer told the court that Singh was not a fisherman and described the incident as a “foolish decision”.The Crown said Singh should receive a $1,000 fine and confiscation of the firearm, while the defense sought his release outright.Judge Carlton ordered a pre-trial report to be made before sentencing. The case is expected to return to court later this month for sentencing.Police had previously charged Singh, a Brampton resident, with two counts of reckless use of a firearm. Authorities also confiscated his firearms and suspended his firearms license as part of the investigation.
