US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he wants the Arc de Triomphe in Washington DC to be the biggest of all as he referred to the country as the biggest and most powerful nation.

Some 57 cities around the world have a triumphal arch, with the president noting that Washington DC, which he called ‘the only major city’, does not have one.

A hint at the Victory ArchDonald Trump previously hinted at plans for a new and permanent monument as part of the administration’s celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, Bloomberg reported.

Earlier this January, when asked when construction would begin, Trump confirmed that it had not begun and that it would begin within the next two months.

“It would be great. Everybody loves it,” Trump told POLITICO in a phone interview from his Palm Beach estate. “They also love the ballroom. But they love the Triumphal Arch,” he added.

For the past few months, Trump has displayed renderings of the proposed arch in the White House Oval Office. The arch is loosely based on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and is expected to be placed across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial.

In his recent interaction with reporters, Trump confirmed that the arch will not be bigger than the White House. “I could have built a much bigger one, but I didn’t want to, I didn’t want it to be taller than the White House,” Trump said.

Asserting that the monument will be a truly beautiful building built by the best architects of the world, the President added that the government is forming a committee that will look after the construction of the arch.
