At least five people were killed and another injured after a collapse at an illegal mining operation in southwestern China’s Yunnan province on Sunday, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.The accident occurred at around 4.30 a.m. in Baiwu Village in Huizi County. However, the type of mine used has not been determined.Six people were trapped after the collapse. Rescue teams recovered all of them from the site and took them to the hospital, where five later died of their wounds. The surviving person was reported to be in stable condition.The authorities opened an investigation into the causes of the collapse.The accident comes just over a week after a coal mine explosion in northern China’s Shaanxi Province, killing at least 82 people. Local officials said the mine operator was involved in “serious violations” of the law.
