At 23, Tusshar Kumar has become the UK’s youngest Indian-origin mayor of Borehamwood.

The appointment was confirmed during the Council’s Mayor’s Appointment Ceremony held at Fairway Hall in Borehamwood on 13 May.Tusshar Kumar studied political science at King’s College London and previously served as deputy mayor before taking up the ceremonial post this year. He has also been involved in local civic and community initiatives in Borehamwood.Kumar described the appointment as an “incredible honour” and said he was grateful for the support he received throughout his political journey.“From studying political science at King’s College London to now being mayor of the city I love, this journey has been truly surreal,” Kumar said.Kumar also thanked outgoing Mayor Dan Ozzaro for his guidance and support during his tenure as Deputy Mayor.“A special thank you to outgoing Mayor Dan Ozzaro for his dedicated service to our city over the past year and for all the guidance and support he has provided me as Deputy Mayor,” he added.Linda Smith has been named deputy mayor for the upcoming civic year.Kumar said he hopes to focus on community engagement, supporting local charities and encouraging more young people to participate in public service.“As mayor, I want to focus on being present within the community, supporting local organizations and charities, and inspiring more young people to participate in public service and community life,” he said.
