An unruly passenger disrupts a United Airlines flight to Minneapolis, and the plane requests FBI help

A United Airlines plane bound for Minneapolis made an emergency landing in Wisconsin after a passenger wanted to break into the cockpit area.

A United Airlines plane carrying 147 passengers and six crew members bound for Minneapolis was forced to divert Friday night after an unruly passenger wanted to enter the cockpit. The flight was diverted to Dane County Regional Airport, Wisconsin, for an emergency landing to remove the notice.

The authorities called in the FBI to address the situation.An FBI spokesman in Milwaukee said the agency had been notified of the flight diversion. Her Madison office and local law enforcement responded to the airport.An official with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the plane requested law enforcement assistance.“One person was arrested by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, after which the passengers resumed their flight,” an FBI spokesperson said.A United spokesman said flight UA2005, which originated from Chicago, “landed safely in Madison, Wisconsin to address a security concern with an unruly passenger.” No injuries were reported among the 147 passengers and six crew members on board.Air traffic control audio, obtained by NBC News, captured a discussion between ground and flight personnel when law enforcement attended the incident.“I don’t think they handcuffed him at all, but they finally got him under control after several attempts to try to get into the cockpit,” a crew member said. “I believe at this point he is sitting on a bench with law enforcement officers surrounding him on both sides.”The flight continued its flight to Minneapolis, landing early Saturday morning, according to FlightAware data.
