An active shooter was reported at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday, as helicopter footage revealed that at least one person wearing a tactical vest appeared to have been shot. Hundreds of police cars lined up outside the station just minutes after the initial call came in looking for the active shooter.
The police also evacuated an elementary school adjacent to the Islamic Center, and the adults who were still inside the center were also evacuated. Cops are frantically searching the neighborhood, going door to door to find the shooter, according to KGTV San Diego.“I am aware of an active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clermont and continue to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area,” Mayor Todd Gloria posted on X.
Residents in the surrounding neighborhoods were advised to stay home and avoid the area.San Diego Police update: “The scene at 7050 Eckstrom Ave remains active but contained. We have significant resources on scene at this time. We have established a reconsolidation site at 4125 Hathaway Street, SD, CA 92111.”Newsom’s press office said: “Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the evolving situation in the Claremont community of San Diego, near the Islamic Center. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (@Cal_OES) is coordinating with local law enforcement. We are grateful to the first responders on scene working to protect the community and urge everyone to follow the guidance of local authorities.”
