A construction worker died after falling from a height at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Friday, prompting police and workplace safety authorities to launch a joint investigation, a day after Prince Harry visited the facility during his UK tour.Emergency services rushed to the hospital shortly before 10am after reports that a man had collapsed while carrying out construction work at the site. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead a short time later.The incident occurred just one day after the Duke of Sussex visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital as part of his trip linked to the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which Birmingham will host.Birmingham Women and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: “An accident has occurred on a construction site at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the person involved. Support is being offered to those affected.”The worker is believed to have been working at a construction site operated by BSN Group Construction.
The company said it was “deeply saddened” by the fatal accident and offered its condolences to the victim’s family, friends and colleagues.The company added that it is cooperating fully with West Midlands Police, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other relevant authorities. She said she would not comment further while the investigation is ongoing.West Midlands Police said officers were called to hospital after receiving reports that a man had fallen from the building shortly before 10am.The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and specialized agencies are now examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.The cause of the accident is still under investigation by police and the HSE.
