US President Donald Trump on Monday declared “peace through strength”, describing it as having been put in place “moderately”, as a 48-hour deadline for Iran expired, following threats from the Tehran regime to close the Strait of Hormuz if the partnership between Washington and Tel Aviv continues to escalate measures against the Islamic Republic.“Peace through strength, to put it mildly!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.Earlier in the day, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard official mocked Donald Trump’s ultimatum, using only his catchphrase, saying: “Trump, you’re fired!”“Trump, you’re fired. You’re familiar with that sentence. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the spokesman added, in a pointed jab that echoed Trump’s signature catchphrase from his time as host of The Apprentice.
The closing line, “Thank you for your concern about this matter,” also appears to mimic Trump’s tone in his social media posts. It comes after Donald Trump warned that the US would “strike and destroy” Iran’s power plants if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, a move that would directly target critical civilian infrastructure. Iran responded with its all-out threat. Military spokesman Ibrahim Zulfiqari said that if Iran’s energy grid was attacked, Tehran would respond with assets linked to the United States across the Gulf.
He added, “If Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked by the enemy, all energy infrastructure as well as information technology… and water desalination facilities belonging to the United States and the regime in the region will be targeted pursuant to previous warnings.”
