There’s been a lot of speculation – and a fair amount of skepticism – surrounding the first Star Wars film in seven years. The Mandalorian and Grogu. The trailers and two trailers (below) released so far have generated no shortage of opinions.
On Monday night, some Star Wars fans and influencers enjoyed the first 25 minutes of the film in Imax, and took to social media to share their thoughts. Keep in mind that these are influencers who haven’t seen the full movie and Disney is smart about who gets invited to such events (the first fan reactions to the widely panned live-action movie in 2025) snow whiteFor example, they were also excited.)
However, these are actual Star Wars fans with a lot of followers online and their opinions matter.
Their rule?
The opening of the film was really strong, with some extended events that particularly benefited from the Imax format. Many have noted that most of what’s been shown in the trailers and clips is from the first 25 minutes, suggesting that writer-director Jon Favreau may be withholding some big surprises from the final portions of the film (this would be on brand – Favreau convinced Disney to completely hide Baby Yoda from them). The Mandalorian Marketing even after the first episode dropped).
If there’s a recurring negative, it’s that the film struck many as a lofty version of a TV show rather than the grandeur of the Skywalker Saga films (or a great movie). Rogue one). Since the movie is based on a TV show, this is probably to be expected.
Here is a sample of comments:
“The 25 minutes felt like the first episode of a new season. Also great for Mando kicking ass on #imax screen. If you’re only going to watch once in the theater, do imax. The sound and scope of the opening action sequence were fantastic. Ludwig [Göransson’s] It was the result [fire]”.
“I really liked what I saw. It has the vibe of the original trilogy, the action looks great (especially in IMAX), the plot looks interesting, and there’s a mystery at its core that caught my attention. I’m really excited!”
“The opening scene is commendable. It’s really great. The CGI still needs some polishing, but if the movie keeps up this momentum, it could easily turn into a huge hit. I can’t say I didn’t like it, but something felt off when the opening credits rolled. It didn’t quite feel like a Star Wars movie. It felt more like a TV movie being streamed online than a big screen experience. Overall, I enjoyed what I saw and will still be sitting down to watch the rest on May 22.”
“Din Djarin is arguably the coolest ever, and Grogu is adorable as always. Although the stakes of the movie aren’t the highest, a lot of what the trailers show is from early in the movie. So hopefully we’ll get some fun surprises.”
“Very fun, reminds me a lot of Season 1 + the OG Star Wars trilogy in terms of story structure and feel. The action is huge, the Hots have a huge role, and I can’t wait to see the rest!”
“If you like the show (like me), I’m sure you’ll love the movie (solely based on what we saw). It looks like the show, of course, but there’s an elevated quality to it, with more polished visuals and atmosphere… Mando is still basically a Star Wars John Wick and doesn’t target the leg when taking down bad guys, so there’s no saturation for the family audience in that regard. Grogu is still cool and fun, so if you’re expecting him to be like Yoda in Episode II, you’re looking at the wrong movie… Overall, I got some of the back of the game… Old Star Wars vibes, and I would have stayed through the whole movie without any complaints if they’d let us, I don’t know if it would reflect a lot of upset SW fans and some will definitely complain no matter what, but who cares, for me, it’s nice to be back in a galaxy far, far away with characters I enjoy, rather than putting up with new characters I don’t like.
“An epic cinematic scale that begs to be seen on the big screen. Ludwig Göransson’s music gave us goosebumps. We had smiles on our faces the entire time watching the footage.”
“So, in many ways, these 25 minutes feel like an exciting premiere for a major online TV series, one that delivers some big scenes and kicks off an exciting season of adventure. The Mandalorian and Grogu On the big screen – on IMAX screens, no less, even bigger screens! This gives everything an added sense of importance, scale and excitement. This may not be a throwback to a Star Wars movie from the good old days, but the scale is definitely there…it seems The Mandalorian and Grogu “It tries to be more than just a TV show, though it’s unclear whether it’s ambitious enough to seem on par with spin-off films.”
“We watched the first 25 minutes of Jon Favreau’s THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU in IMAX
On May 4th and this was such a treat. Really a lot of fun. The movie looks much better on this huge screen especially when the aspect ratio expands to the full 1.43.
“I’m so happy to report that this movie is going to be a huge hit! Great action and great Grogu tricks. Can’t wait to see the rest!”
Here are the two clips from the film, which opens on May 22.
