The City of London Police arrested Mukund Krishna, the head of the Police Federation of England and Wales, on Wednesday on suspicion of corruption. Police said their internal corruption unit was investigating allegations of fraud and abuse of office within the federation over the past year.
She added that the investigation is complex and ongoing. “This is a complex and active investigation in which we are pursuing all lines of inquiry.”
Is Mukund Krishna a policeman? What is the Police Federation in England and Wales?
The Police Federation of England and Wales is the organization that represents rank-and-file police officers (from Constable to Chief Inspector) across England and Wales, providing welfare support, representation and negotiating pay and conditions. Mukund Krishna is set to be appointed as the first ever chief executive of the Police Federation of England and Wales in 2024.
He’s not a cop and in fact his background was in management.
Prior to joining Deferral, he worked as a management consultant and leader of major transformation programmes, including roles in the UK and overseas, and held senior roles overseeing large-scale organizational change. His appointment to the position from his non-policing background and a salary of £320,000 a year had also drawn scrutiny earlier. A union spokesman said: “We are aware of the arrest of three individuals linked to the police union as part of an ongoing police investigation. This is a live matter and it is not appropriate to comment further at this stage. The organization is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities.”
