Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon and Tom Holland are set to visit India to attend the Mumbai premiere of The Odyssey in July. Producer Emma Thomas will join the director and stars at the event.
The event will be the first time a Nolan film will premiere in India, giving fans a chance to welcome the team behind one of the biggest releases of the year ahead of its theatrical release worldwide.
Christopher Nolan and The Odyssey head to Mumbai
Universal Pictures International has announced Mumbai as one of four cities in the promotional tour for the film, Hindustan Times reported. London, Paris and New York will host the premieres. The organizers have not revealed the date of the Mumbai event.
The India premiere will take place at PVR Icon IMAX at Phoenix Palladium Mall. Nolan, Thomas, Damon and Holland are expected to attend. A press release described the visit as a “historic moment” for the film and entertainment industry in India.
“The Odyssey” follows Homer’s ancient Greek epic
Nolan wrote and directed “The Odyssey,” an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem. Damon plays Odysseus, King of Ithaca, who faces a dangerous journey home after the Trojan War.
Anne Hathaway plays Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, while Holland plays their son Telemachus. The ensemble includes Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. Thomas and Nolan produced the film through their company Syncopy.
The production used real locations and practical effects to recreate ancient Greece, continuing Nolan’s preference for shooting scenes without relying on computer-generated settings.Speaking at a California Adopt-A-Pet Day event on June 6, Damon called it “the hardest movie I’ve ever made.” He added that Nolan preferred to shoot scenes for real rather than using green screens or studio props. The film has artistic distinction. It is the first feature filmed entirely with IMAX cameras. This format will play a role in its theatrical run, including a premiere in Mumbai. “The Odyssey” is scheduled to be released in theaters around the world on July 17. The Mumbai event will place India alongside three premiere destinations as Universal begins the promotional campaign for Nolan’s film.
