Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently on his European tour and has bagged a permanent place at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris. The event was made even more special because Oscar-winning director Costa-Gavras attended the celebration and spent nearly eight hours watching Rajamouli’s films and masterclassing.
SS Rajamouli receives honor in Paris
The ‘Varanasi’ director shared his happiness on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: “Being here in Paris and showing my films is in itself an honour. But it is a beautiful surprise that I never expected. It is a feeling that I cannot fully express. To have a permanent place in the halls of one of the most legendary cinematic institutions in the world, which bears the name of the great Henri Langlois himself, is something I will carry with me forever.”
“He also expressed his gratitude, thanking everyone who made this moment possible. He added: “I express my profound gratitude to the legendary Costa-Gavras and to the entire French cinema family for this honour, and for embracing Indian cinema with such warmth and love.”
Interestingly, Costa-Gavras was planning to watch only RRR and return another day to Eega. After watching the first film, he changed his plan and stayed with his wife for the rest of the screenings and masterclasses.
SS Karthikeya shares an unforgettable moment
SS Rajamouli’s son and director SS Karthikeya shared the special moment on his social media account where he revealed, “93 year old Oscar winner and legendary French director Mr. Costa-Gavras came to watch RRR yesterday and told @ssrajamouli that he will be back for Eega tomorrow, skipping Baahubali today. But we were surprised, he came today with his wife and stayed for 8 hours straight to watch both films and masterclass.”
These are the moments that inspire us and remind us why we are at the cinema.
SS Rajamouli is next
On the current work front, SS Rajamouli is working on the time-travel action-adventure film ‘Varanasi’ with Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead.
