Former Indian captain and T20 World Cup winner Rohit Sharma, who played nearly two decades for Team India, shared that Indian cricket is moving strongly in the right direction, both in terms of results and mentality, as he expressed his desire to see India establish itself as the undisputed powerhouse of world cricket.Speaking at the ESA Indians Day event in Mumbai, Rohit spoke about the remarkable success India has achieved across formats and tournaments in recent years and credited the country’s growing cricket structure for consistent performances on the global stage.“I want India to be the powerhouse in world cricket… That’s the bottom line because I want India to be the best and cricket to be at the forefront. What we have done in the last three years has been amazing to see.
From the 2024 World Cup, Women’s World Cup, U-19 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and another T20 World Cup. I hope we continue our winning streak,” said Rohit Saeed.
Rohit also spoke about how the game has evolved significantly since the beginning of his international journey, especially in white-ball cricket where batting styles have become significantly more aggressive.“When we started with 130-140 it was a good result but now it is difficult.
Now, any result one gets does not seem very convincing. This is the story that tells you how the game has gone over the years.According to the former MI captain, the audacity shown by modern-day cricketers has propelled the sport to greater heights.“People are becoming braver, more open-minded about the way they should do things, which is a good sign for the sport, the game and the league. Players are not afraid to take a step forward rather than be conservative.
In the coming years too, this will continue and will reach even greater levels. While discussing the next generation of cricketers, Rohit stressed the importance of allowing youngsters to enjoy the game without burdening them with expectations too early in life.“It depends from age to age. I know there are kids from six years old to 18 years old. You don’t want to put too much pressure on a child too early in their life.
They should just enjoy sports, watching and playing with their friends. That’s how it all started for me. The situation will tell you what is important at this time. Enjoy the sport you want to play. “No one can force you to do something,” the ODI opener said.Rohit has declared himself fully fit ahead of MI’s final match in IPL 2026Meanwhile, Rohit also received a timely fitness boost ahead of Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 final match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium.
The veteran has been declared officially 100% fit after suffering injury interruptions during the season.Despite featuring in just eight matches, Rohit still managed to make a strong impact with the bat, scoring 283 runs at an impressive average of 40.42 and a strike rate of 160.70. His standout performances this season include a 84 off 44 balls against Lucknow Super Giants and a stunning 78 off just 38 deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders.
