Broadway shines a broader spotlight on a dancer whose resume is already taking shape.

The production came after a long audition process that lasted several months and included a large group of dancers, with only a small number ultimately chosen. Regine Sophia got one of those spots. “I like getting into spaces that require different strengths,” she says. “It keeps me honest and keeps me growing.”

This might be the clearest way to understand why she currently felt so powerful. Regine Sophia is not introduced to the public by one impressive line attached to her name. They arrive with receipts from multiple directions.

From 2023 through 2025, she received five scholarships and individual awards related to dance and performance achievement: the June H. Ford Memorial Musical Theater Dance Performance Award, the Robin and Gladys Golombek Performance Achievement Scholarship, the Feinor Family Arts Award in Musical Theater, the Robert E. Leonard Award, and the Sue Carson Award.

“I am proud of these medals because they reflect years of effort,” she says. “They remind me that work has substance behind it.”

Her dance background helps explain why this material reads so clearly. Regine Sophia’s experience spans hip-hop, jazz, musical theater dance, ballet and contemporary modern works. This diversity is not just a list of styles. It’s part of her identity as a dancer. She was determined to build breadth rather than limit herself to one way of movement.

“I’ve always wanted to be versatile in a real way,” she says. “I want to bring a full range of skills to the room.”

This instinct started early. She began taking hip-hop and ballet lessons at the age of five, then continued to expand her training as her abilities grew. Later, she led the 13-member METTA Dance Troupe as dance captain to the silver position in the Philippine National Dance Championships. She also placed second in the same tournament, earned an honorable mention in the Philippine Dance Cup, and performed the opening role for Ballet Philippines during their Romeo and Juliet run.

These achievements are significant on paper, but they also point to something deeper. Regine Sophia was trusted not only to dance, but to help maintain a greater standard. I talked about taking on the responsibilities associated with organizing logistics, relaying information, supervising proposals, adjusting schedules, and helping handle group conflict when needed. In other words, she has consistently shown that she understands how much hard work goes on around art, not just within it.

“I care about what makes the whole process stronger,” she says. “This includes what happens before anyone sees the end result.”

Her path to musical theater goes back to seeing the Asia Pacific tour Musical catsIt is an experience that prompted her to imagine herself within that world with a new seriousness. She had already begun training in dance, but this production sharpened the desire for something more realistic. It gave her a vision of what she wanted to achieve and the level she wanted to reach.

“It made the dream feel so vivid,” she says. “I can imagine life more clearly then.”

Now she’s living a version of that life while still looking beyond the current chapter. Regine Sophia sees more Broadway work in her future, along with stages around the country, national tours, international tours, and continued growth in her abilities over time. She also wants to expand into choreography and remain active in teaching and sharing knowledge within the theater and dance community.

This outlook fits into the larger shape of her career. Regine Sophia does not stand still within one exciting moment and hopes it will extend forever. It’s building. Broadway makes it easy for people to notice that, but the bigger truth is that the foundation was already there. Lead roles, competitive accolades, scholarships and awards, leadership experience, and an extensive dance vocabulary all move in the same direction.
