Rasika Duggal is excited about ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’, calling the series-to-film shift a first of its kind in Indian entertainment. She hopes loyal OTT fans will embrace the theatres. In contrast to the frenetic pace of the series, filming for the film was less stressful, despite the same team returning. ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ will hit theaters on September 4.
Rasika Dugal is thrilled to be back in the world of ‘Mirzapur’, this time to bring it to the big screen. In a recent interview, she spoke candidly about being part of what she sees as a first-of-its-kind moment for Indian entertainment, the series’ demanding shooting schedule, reuniting with the original cast and crew, and the pressure of meeting the expectations of the franchise’s loyal fan base.
Rasika Dugal describes the film as a unique and historic moment
Describing ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ as a historic moment, Rasika expressed her excitement at being part of a project that charts a new territory. Speaking to India Today, she said, “I am very excited to be part of something that is happening for the first time in our country, in our industry, where a series is being made into a film. I think this has happened in the West. Peaky Blinders is something that happened after the series ended.”
The opposite also happened in the West, where the film was turned into a series. But this is the first time this has happened in our country. So I’m very excited to be a part of that.”
Rasika Dugal hopes that the OTT audience will follow the show in theatres
The actress admitted that she is quite keen to see how the audience responds to the shift from OTT to the big screen. “I’m very curious to see how the audience receives this, and I hope our very loyal audience will come to the theaters as well,” she added.
Rasika Duggal says that shooting the film was less difficult than the series
Although the cast and crew remained the same, Rasika noted that the film’s shooting pace was nowhere near the frenetic energy of the series. “The crew was exactly the same. It’s just that we had more time to shoot. In the serial, I feel like something is falling on my head because I shoot five or six scenes a day. I’ve just finished one scene, and I have no idea what happened. I can barely grapple with what happened before I’m rushing into a room to change one sari and be taken back to another scene.”
It’s like I’m doing a theater show where you’ll go to the wings and come back. It’s almost like that. I remembered that it seemed very heavy.
Rasika Dugal recalls Divyendu Sharma’s reaction in the first season
She recalled sharing these sentiments with co-star Divyendu Sharma during the first season. “I remember talking to Divyenndu when we were shooting the first season. We had just two minutes to sit down, and Divyenndu looked at me and said, ‘Yaar yeh thoda zyada dark nahi ho raha hai (Isn’t this a bit dark?’) I said, ‘Thank you for voicing it,’ because I was so tired that I couldn’t even express it.”
