“Obama will attack and use the Iran card”: Trump’s old tweet resurfaces after the US-Israeli strikes

As explosions lit up the skies of Tehran in the wake of coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Iran, social media users began searching for an old post by none other than Donald Trump. Trump’s old post contradicts his actions. Earlier in 2013, Trump predicted that former President Barack Obama would attack Iran over the failed negotiations. More than a decade later, with missiles flying, that tweet is circulating again — this time with the name of a different president linked to the unfolding crisis.

Iran War: Trump’s first video message to Khamenei and the Iranians; Confirms combat operations “Give it up now”

The United States and Israel on Saturday launched what they described as a coordinated operation — dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” — targeting key Iranian government and military sites. There were reports of huge explosions across Tehran and other cities, including areas associated with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.Iran responded quickly. Ballistic missiles hit Israeli targets and several US military installations throughout the Gulf, including bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, dramatically expanding the standoff and raising fears of a broader regional war.

A resurfaced 2013 post — in which Trump accused Obama of potentially attacking Iran because of poor negotiation skills — added an ironic twist to this moment.Trump said in a post on X: “Remember, I long ago predicted that President Obama would attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly – unskilled!”

At the time, Washington was engaged in diplomatic efforts with Tehran that eventually led to the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Trump abandoned that deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, later during his first term in 2018, marking a sharp shift in US policy. Now, as Iran’s leadership moves to secure the sites and the region braces for more retaliation, the decade-old tweet serves as a reminder: In geopolitics, yesterday’s accusation can become tomorrow’s headline. In another post dating back to 2012, Trump said: Do not let Obama play the Iran card in order to ignite a war to get him elected.

Today, the United States launched an attack on Iran before the midterm elections.

One user reacted to his post today, “Mr. President @realDonaldTrump, you are doing exactly what you once accused Obama of doing. And what you are doing to Iran appears to be for the sake of your friend @Netanyahu, who wants to use this war to keep himself in power.”
