'Karuppu', Dridam, 'Kenatha Kanom': New South movies to watch on OTT this week

The second week of June brought an exciting line-up of South Indian releases across major OTT platforms. Viewers have many choices this week, from fantasy action films to crime thrillers.Some of the notable releases include Suriya’s fantasy action film Karuppu, Sreenath Bhasi’s action thriller Pongala, and many more.

Suriya’s blockbuster fantasy drama ‘Karuppu’ has made its official OTT debut. The RJ Balaji-directed film began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on June 12 after enjoying a successful theatrical run.The film is available in its original Tamil version and has also been released in several languages ​​dubbed.

The cast includes Trisha Krishnan, RJ Balaji, Shivada, Yogi Babu and Swasika in important roles.Blending fantasy elements with action and emotional narrative, ‘Karuppu’ turns out to be Suriya’s biggest comeback after a string of disappointing films over the past few years.

Srinath Bassi “Pongala”

Malayalam thriller ‘Pongala’ also joined the list of new digital releases this week. Directed by Sreenath Bhasi, the film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The story unfolds against the backdrop of the coastal belt of Kerala and is inspired by incidents associated with the Vipin-Munambam region during the early 2000s. Directed by A.P. Pinnell, the film explores the conflicts and struggles for power and survival within a fishing community.The cast includes Baburaj, Sampath Ram, Kishu Telus, Sudhir Karamana, Alencir Lee Lopez, Sminu Siju and Murugan Martin. Although ‘Pongala’ did not do well at the box office, it is expected to garner huge attention after its OTT release.

“Dreedam” by Shane Nigam

Crime thriller ‘Dridam’ has gone OTT on JioHotstar after its theatrical release earlier this year. The film is directed by Martin Joseph, and stars Shane Nigam in the lead role.The story revolves around a police officer whose routine position takes an unexpected turn when a murder case reaches him. After discovering human remains, he is given a limited period to identify the culprit and solve the mystery. The investigation becomes increasingly complex.

The film also features Dinesh Prabhakar and Sania Fathima in the lead roles and is available in multilingual versions.

‘Athiradi’ is gearing up for an OTT release

Malayalam action comedy ‘Athiradi’ is all set to premiere digitally on SonyLIV on June 19. The film stars Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph in the lead roles.Directed by Arun Anirudhan, the story revolves around a free-spirited college student who is determined to bring back the stalled campus festival.

His efforts soon spark a rivalry with a former gangster who chose a completely different path in life. The film also has a surprising cameo appearance. The film “Athiradi” received good reviews and turned out to be a hit.

Yogi Babu’s Tamil comedy-drama ‘Kenatha Kanom’ is all set to start streaming on JioHotstar from June 16. The film blends comedy, mystery and social commentary through a village story. Set in a drought-stricken region, the film revolves around residents struggling to overcome a severe water crisis. Their search for a solution eventually leads to a surprising discovery that changes the direction of the story.Yogi Babu plays Manivasagam, a temple sculptor known for his sense of humor and outspoken personality.
