New Delhi: Pacer Jasprit Bumrah endured one of the toughest seasons of his T20 career as his IPL 2026 campaign ended with an undesirable record. Mumbai Indians were rested in the team’s final league match against Rajasthan Royals, finishing the season with just four wickets in 13 matches.

Bumrah finished with a bowling average of 102.50, the worst ever for any bowler in T20 history who has bowled 40 or more overs in a single tournament. The poor campaign came as a surprise because Bumrah entered the Indian Premier League after his success in the T20 World Cup, where he played a key role in India’s title win. However, Mumbai Indians have also struggled badly this season and crashed out of the play-off race early. One of the main reasons behind Bumrah’s poor form is fitness issues.

Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene revealed that the fast bowler has been in pain since the T20 World Cup, which affected his rhythm and pace during the tournament.“I think he will come back from the World Cup as well [Bumrah] “He had a little pain playing with him during the World Cup,” Jayawardene said.“So, you can see that the pace… has dropped because of that.”Jayawardene also said that teams approached Bumrah differently this season because Mumbai’s other bowlers failed to apply pressure from the other end.

He added: “I won’t worry about Poms. I think he is in good spirits and will come back strong.”Bumrah has now been rested for India’s next home match against Afghanistan as the team management hopes he will regain full fitness ahead of a busy international season later this year.
