A New Zealand woman said police came looking for her because of her “Welcome to the New India” Facebook post.
Renee Rose Schwenke, a New Zealand woman, claimed police knocked on her door and accused her of racist behavior after she posted a photo on Facebook with the caption: “Welcome to the new India.”
It was a picture of her with two Indian looking men in the background. But the post was a mockery of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon who recently signed a free trade agreement with India. “Welcome to the new India thanks to Luxing,” the post read. theSchwenke said the Facebook post, which she did not consider racist, was flooded with offensive comments from Indians, and the post was eventually reported to police, who pursued her.
She wrote: “I asked the police to contact me regarding my ‘racist’ post. It did not contain a threat or incitement to violence. I was summoned to the police station to be told by a senior sergeant that my post was cruel, ‘racist’, and unwelcome by the Indian community.”“He had to walk away from us twice because he was driven by his own opinions and couldn’t handle a little pushback and truth, instead of acting like a professional. That’s what happens when you live under the soft tyranny of offended peoples.”
I will not silence my opinions to accommodate your feelings.The woman also shared a recording of a policewoman calling her mother and searching for her in relation to her social media post. The policeman said they were planning to come to her house “regarding some posts she was making online that people were not taking well, so they filed some complaints with the police.”“I receive death threats on a regular basis because of my opinions and beliefs, and I’m called every name under the sun as racist, transphobic, and Islamophobic, but somehow I’m wrong. This world is upside down.“Good is now evil, evil is now good,” the woman doubled down.Schwenke reshared her post and said: “If you’re offended by this, I’m not excluding you. It’s personal, and it’s not all about you. No to the mass immigration invasion!”
