Imtiaz Ali reveals that Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are showing the film Jab We Met to their children, but Mira Rajput prefers the film Tamasha.

Imtiaz Ali said that Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor will introduce Jab We Met to their children, much to the delight of the director. He pointed to the censorship approval of it and its legacy. Interestingly, Mira Rajput prefers his films ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’. The 2007 classic has grown into a cult favorite, with performances by Shahid and Kareena.

Nearly twenty years after its first release, Jab We Met is finding a whole new audience: the children of its stars. Director Imtiaz Ali couldn’t hide his joy when he heard about it, but he also revealed fun little details along the way. Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira is not actually a fan of Jab We Met, rather she prefers other franchise films like Tamasha or Rockstar, both of which star Ranbir Kapoor.

Imtiaz Ali remembers the censorship screening of Jab We Met

Speaking to Pinkvilla, Imtiaz Ali recalls, “It makes me feel happy that Shahid’s kids and Kareena’s kids are watching their film Jab We Met. It’s the only movie I remember after the screening. I went after the censorship check and asked them what certificate they were giving. They said clean, no arguments or anything.”

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor They independently chose Jab We Met as their children’s first film

In an old interview, Shahid once said that Jab We Met was the first film he showed his children.

What made it even more special was that Kareena said the exact same thing around the same time. Both of the lead actors from the beloved 2007 film are now parents, and independently chose this film as their children’s first film. When Imtiaz heard this, it clearly meant the world to him. He added, “I’m really happy that Kareena and Shahid are introducing this to their kids.

Imtiaz Ali reveals Mira Rajput He’s a fan of Rockstar and Tamasha, not a fan of Jab We Met

He also shared something interesting about what Mira likes to watch. It turns out that she is not a big fan of Jab We Met and prefers other films from the franchise.

“I think Mira likes Rockstar more than Jab We Met. She’s a fan of Rockstar and Tamasha, and I think Mira in particular also sang a song for me when I went to his house one day. And that wasn’t a Shahid song,” he said.

About ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’ – two of Imtiaz Ali’s most loved films

Released in 2011, Rockstar remains one of Imtiaz Ali’s strongest films, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri and music by AR Rahman. ‘Tamasha’, which released in 2015 with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, had a slower start but has won hearts over time and is now considered a blockbuster film.

“Jab We Met” was released in October 2007 and was not a huge hit on day one but developed into something much bigger over time. Shahid plays Aditya Kashyap, a broken man who is so isolated that he barely speaks while Geet takes control of every scene. It’s the role that people still connect with the most from that chapter of his life, the role he’s constantly asked about, and the one he considers Imtiaz’s greatest work. Kareena played the unforgettable role of Geet Dhillon, a girl who was loud, a little scatterbrained, full of life, and completely unapologetic.
