IISc invites applications to host MTech Bioengineering students for summer internship 2026

Indian Institute of Science is looking for industrial partners for summer internship in Bioengineering 2026

The Department of Bioengineering at Indian Institute of Science has invited organizations to host Bioengineering MTech students from the batch of 2026 for summer training.

The outreach is targeted at companies, research centers and technology groups looking to engage with postgraduate talent trained at the institute’s Bengaluru campus. The invitation puts students at the center of the initiative, highlighting their laboratory depth, computational power and preparation for applied industry roles. Organizations are encouraged to contact the department directly to explore training opportunities for the upcoming summer session.Training shaped around real-world scienceThe Department of Bioengineering describes itself as “focusing on cutting-edge research in interdisciplinary fields such as bioengineering, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology,” according to the X publication. The publication also notes that researchers use “a variety of scientific tools” to explore biological systems and develop ways to modify them for therapeutic and industrial purposes.

This approach is reflected in the classroom and laboratory. The MTech course offers the study of Biomaterials Science, Drug Delivery: Principles and Applications, Devices and Diagnostics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Systems Biology, Artificial Intelligence for Biomedical Research, Data Science and Machine Learning.Students are given comprehensive disciplinary training to integrate biology with computation and engineering and develop their abilities such as research and product development.Technical exposure across platformsWork experience through practical applications is a key component of the programme. Students can use microscopy techniques such as SEM and TEM, as well as molecular biology methods such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, and ELISA. The practice also includes flow cytometry and sophisticated image processing using deep learning algorithms. On the programming side, students are provided with data analysis tools such as R, Python, and MATLAB, as well as NGS data analysis pipelines.

The department maintains a faculty-student ratio of 1:6 across the department and 1:2 for the MTech programme, enabling close academic engagement. The Class of 2027 includes 19 students, with a gender breakdown of 53 percent and 47 percent.Industry links and contact detailsThe department notes that it delivers “industry-ready bioengineering graduates” with “data-driven biological insight” and “technical fluency across domains,” as stated in Circular X.

Previous recruiters include ACHIRA, ZS, Vantage Research, L’Oréal, Siemens Healthineers and P&G.Internships are coordinated by the Office of Career Counseling and Placement. Professor Bhaskara Rao Chintada works as the coordinator of the department. Organizations can write to office.be@iisc.ac.in or call 080-2293 2624. Appointment inquiries can be directed to place.occap@iisc.ac.in or 8291292757.
