'I want all the evidence to...': Indian-origin Akash Singhania on calling police after Youtuber’s pedophilia accusation

Akash Singhania has been falsely accused of being a child predator

An Indian-origin man who was wrongly accused of being a pedophile in a scathing online video described the moment he decided to call the police, saying: “I want all the evidence documented immediately.

“Right now.”Akash Singhania was publicly accused in California by YouTuber Vitaly Zdorovetskiy and his team of trying to date a 16-year-old girl. The allegations turned out to be false. The confrontation was filmed and shared online. It went viral and sparked backlash.Speaking about the moment tensions escalated, Singhania said he asked to see the Snapchat messages used against him but was refused. This prompted him to immediately involve law enforcement.“I asked to look at Snapchat and they didn’t show me. And then right after that, I’m pretty sure, when I said, ‘Okay, I need to call the police immediately because I want to document all the evidence.’ Like, I don’t feel safe right now.”He added that his priority is to clear his name through official documents. “Most importantly, all evidence that completely exonerates me and clears my name because I am completely innocent must be documented immediately.

Immediately. The only solution to properly document that evidence, in my opinion, was the police. When officers arrived, he cooperated fully, even allowing them to search his phone, Singhania said. He also indicated his understanding of legal rights during police questioning.Akash explained the situation: “So I was like okay, I’m going to call the police right away and then I came and I was holding my phone and I was looking at everything, and I gave it all up like a normal person. If you’ve watched any kind of TV lawyer show or anything they’re all saying, don’t say anything, don’t say anything without the lawyer present. You should also know your rights, protect your rights, anything you can say will be used against you, anything you say can be used against you.”

“Yes. So, at first I was trying to convince them with all the evidence at first. Um, the minute I met with them, but they said, ‘You have to wait until we read your rights,'” he added.“So I had to wait before I could talk to them about anything. And then I waved my rights away and said, ‘Look at my phone, look at everything. I have nothing to hide.’

The incident began when Vitale and his team confronted Singhania in a California neighborhood, claiming he had arranged to meet a minor via Snapchat.

During the conversation, Singhania repeatedly denied the allegation and insisted he believed he was speaking to an 18-year-old.Video from the scene also shows him asking the group to check his messages. However, the accusations continued, with Vitale at one point saying: “You’re one of those tech, smart Indians, huh,” alongside allegations that several Snapchat accounts were involved. The situation escalated until the police arrived. According to Singhania, officers from the Santa Ana Police Department reviewed the matter and confirmed that he had done nothing wrong.

He later thanked the officers for their handling of the case. After the backlash, Vitale publicly acknowledged the mistake and issued an apology. “We identified Akash Singhania and wrongly accused him. We were completely wrong and made a huge mistake,” he said.He also urged people to remove the trending clips, adding: “My team and I made a mistake and we are deeply sorry Akash. Whoever has those clips, take them down. You messed up your Snapchat messages. It was the wrong time and the wrong place.”Despite the apology, Singhania said the damage had already been done, including harassment and damage to his reputation. “While I appreciate that the error was admitted, the impact of the false accusation was significant. I have been subjected to harassment, judgment, and damage to my personal and professional relationships based on something that has now been proven to be false.”
