Former Democratic Virginia Governor Justin Fairfax shot and killed his wife before killing himself.
Fairfax County police responded to a horrific murder-suicide in Virginia early Thursday morning after former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax killed his wife and then took his own life.
“This appears to be an ongoing domestic dispute related to a complicated or messy divorce,” Fairfax County Sheriff Kevin Davis told reporters outside the home.Fairfax shot his wife several times and then ran to another part of the house and killed himself with the same rifle. Their teenage children were present at the home when the murder-suicide occurred. Someone called 911. Officers with the Fairfax County Police Department were called shortly after midnight to a home on Jennifer Drive in Annandale, where they discovered a man and woman dead inside.
The house is owned by Fairfax and his wife, Serena.First, responding officers found the woman unconscious and bleeding. Police dog units and a helicopter were then deployed to search the building. Fairfax was then located in another part of the house, lying dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Fairfax, a former Democratic lieutenant governor, served under former Gov. Ralph Northam and faced public accusations from two women in 2019, who alleged he sexually assaulted them in separate incidents in 2000 and 2004. He denied all allegations at the time and said the two meetings were consensual.
