Academy Award winner István Szabó and the crew prepare for his next big project, the long-awaited drama Embers. Popular English actor Ralph Fiennes has reportedly been added to the title role.
Ralph Fiennes and more actors in upcoming drama “Embers”
According to Deadline, Ralph Fiennes, along with Viggo Mortensen, Charlotte Rampling, Katherine Langford, Louis Hoffman, Jess Blum, Evelyn Brochu, and Jonah Russell will also be part of the dramatic piece coming from the mind of István Szabó. This is Szabo’s second film since 2012, and the first film he’s been working on in the past six years.According to the aforementioned report, Christopher Hampton, best known for his work on Dangerous Liaisons, will adapt the drama from the novel written by best-selling author Sandor Marai.
The film’s shooting has already begun, and the entire cast of the film is currently filming in Budapest, Hungary.Not only that, but the first official look of Fiennes, Mortensen, and Langford’s characters from the drama film has also been released online. Also joining the project are Academy Award-winning composer Michael D’Anna, production designer Attila F. Kovacs, cinematographer Daniel Jarras, costume designer Pia Mirkovits, and editor David Warnsby.

Szabó expressed his excitement at working on the project and with all the actors cast in the film. He cited, “Ever since Christopher Hampton sent it to me, Robert Lantos and I have been waiting to shoot the best screenplay I’ve ever had. The basis, Marae’s novel, is one of the most beautiful works of fiction of the twentieth century. Christopher has adapted the novel perfectly to film.”

The official synopsis of the upcoming film has been released online. The film reads: “Imbers reconnects with inseparable friends, Henrik (Fiennes) and Conrad (Mortensen), decades after Conrad’s mysterious disappearance and over the course of one evening uncovers the secret that has torn them apart — and the woman at the center of it.”
