Madhur Bhandarkar spoke about the impact of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, praising director Aditya Dhar while also calling out what he described as the “shocking silence” from the Hindi film industry. In a conversation with Fereydoun Shahryar, the director said that the film revolutionized the industry in an unprecedented way.Supporting Ram Gopal Varma’s statement that it is “like an atomic bomb under the film industry”, Bhandarkar said: “I completely agree with Ram Gopal Varma. I think Ramu ji and I were the first to tweet about the film. I watched it on Wednesday night in a paid preview and tweeted about it the next morning. I also spoke to Aditya Dhar again and told him how great the film was. I liked Dhurandhar 2 more than Dhurandhar 1.”

‘Southern stars appreciate it, Bollywood has remained silent’

The director noted that many South Indian stars openly praised the film, something he felt was missing in Bollywood.“I saw tweets from Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan, Rajinikanth sir… and many South actors expressed their appreciation for it. But I was really shocked that from the Mumbai film industry, the kind of applause and support that Aditya Dhar deserves has not come,” he said.He added that regardless of personal taste, films deserve appreciation. “Every film – whether you like it or not – deserves appreciation. Aditya Dhar has brought life back to the industry.

We were going through a very bad phase over the past year and a half to two years. The films did not perform well at the box office, despite this, this film did exceptionally well.

“There is no unity in the film industry.”

Bhandarkar did not mince words while speaking about the lack of unity within the industry.“I always say that there is no unity in the film industry. The support that should have come from the filmmakers, actors and producers here… did not come. But look at the South – the stars watched the film in the first few days and expressed their appreciation for it openly,” he said.“One good film benefits everyone – technicians, scouts, actors, music directors. We should appreciate it openly. What are we trying to prove by remaining silent?”

“This movie changed the dynamics.”

Pointing out the scale and impact of the film, the director echoed Ram Gopal Varma’s “dinosaur” comparison, but went further.“I think it’s more than that. This film changed the whole dynamics – the script, the logic, the rules of filmmaking.

People are shocked. I’ve talked to so many directors and they’ve said: What a movie!“I even tweeted that this will be a case study all over the world – in film schools, everywhere. The industry needs to wake up now and understand what kind of films need to be made.”

“You can’t get Aditya Dhar’s mind”

Bhandarkar also credited Aditya Dhar’s vision, calling it a “director’s film”.“It’s a director’s film. You can have all the money, but you can’t have Aditya Dhar’s mind. It’s a director’s film. You can have all the money, but you can’t have Aditya Dhar’s mind.”

“The script and the details – people today don’t even watch a one-minute WhatsApp video in its entirety, but here they sit till 2:45 am watching the entire film,” he said.He added his personal experience: “I have watched Dhurandhar 2 twice and Dhurandhar 1 three times. I go to theaters and watch the audience. People were glued till the end of the credits. This emotional connection, especially in the climax with…
