Celina Jaitley recalls learning of brother's detention in UAE amid divorce battle with Peter Haag: 'No one supported me'

Selina Jaitley is seeking answers regarding the detention of her brother Major (retd) Vikrant Kumar Jaitley in the United Arab Emirates since September last year. The issue came up for her at a time when she was dealing with a deeply troubled marriage and an ongoing domestic violence case against her husband, Peter Haag.A few days ago, the Delhi High Court passed an order allowing the appointment of a UAE law firm to represent Major (retd) Vikrant Jaitley. Speaking to news agency PTI, Selina spoke about the moment she first learned of her brother’s arrest and how it coincided with one of the most difficult times in her personal life.

“I was in a very violent and bad marriage”

Recalling the night she got the call, Selina said she was living in Austria at the time and didn’t believe what she was told at first.“I found out around September 29. The call came around nine in the evening. I was living in Austria at the time. At first I thought my brother was joking. Within an hour I dismissed it as one of his stupid jokes,” she said.Placing the event in the context of her personal circumstances, the actress talked about the marriage she was trying to save at the time.“I was in a very abusive and bad marriage. But when you have children, you do everything to make it work.

When you have no parents, when you have no more property, you do everything to save your marriage, especially for your children,” she added.Selina previously spoke about filing a case against Peter Haag under the Domestic Violence Act, alleging domestic abuse, cruelty and manipulation.

“If I don’t leave Austria, I won’t be able to stand up for my brother”

The actress said that she soon realized that if she stayed in Austria, she would not be able to continue the case or fight for her brother’s release.“I made this decision in the middle of the battle without involving my children. Knowing that if I didn’t leave Austria, I wouldn’t be able to stand up for my brother. At 1 am, with almost no money, with a ticket bought on a credit card, I left Austria and came to India,” she said.

“No one supported me”

Selina went on to say that after returning to India, she found herself without any institutional or personal support. The actress revealed that she had to seek an injunction just to enter her house in Mumbai, alleging that her husband was trying to sell the property without her consent.

She then approached the Delhi High Court to initiate legal proceedings to bring her brother back to India.

The petition refers to illegal detention from September 2024

In her petition, Selina alleged that Major (retd) Vikrant Jaitley was illegally abducted and held in the UAE since September 2024. The statement also said that despite the passage of more than a year, the Center was unable to obtain even basic information about his welfare or legal status.A recent order by the Delhi High Court allowing a UAE law firm to represent her brother is seen as a major development in the case.
