Carrie Bickmore, one of Australia’s best-known media personalities and a familiar face from her years in television and radio, has revealed she needed plastic surgery after a traumatic head injury she sustained at home.
The 45-year-old described the incident as looking like a “crime scene” and has since been dealing with a slow and painful recovery.Bickmore shared on Instagram on Monday, April 20, that she was experiencing “blood gushing” from her forehead after she ran into the corner of a wall. “It looks like a crime scene,” she wrote, adding that she “glued it back together” so she could go on vacation with her family the next day.

Bickmore explained, during Monday’s episode of her radio show “Carrie and Tommy,” that she “misjudged” the angle of her wall while walking in the middle of the night. “I got into it so hard that when I fell, I pulled a lamp that was on the bedside table with me,” she said. “I was picking it up with my hand and it fell into my eye.”She was unable to wash her hair or swim for 10 days, and believes the wound “broken open” during her subsequent trip to Sri Lanka, where she was photographed standing on the beach with a bandage covered.

Returning to Instagram, Bickmore revealed that the situation had taken a turn for the worse. “The healing is terrible. And the pain. Also a lady randomly dropped her bag on my head. Oh my god it hurt. Now it has to be fixed properly by a plastic surgeon,” she wrote.She later discovered she had “hit a nerve” and was now in pain. According to Bickmore, the plastic surgeon told her they needed to remove the glue from the wound before stitching the nerve and layers of skin together.
“It was so deep that the glue did absolutely nothing,” she said.Despite the ordeal, Bickmore maintained her sense of humour, joking on Instagram: “Scars are sexy? Face to the radio, except tonight when I’m back on TV for Channel 7’s Celebrity Intervention!” Her post attracted more than 500 comments, with many of her 794,000 followers wishing her a speedy recovery.
