Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ received huge praise for the ‘peak’ performances by the actors. And it wasn’t just the main stars, but even the character actors who nailed their performances.
One of them is Bimal Oberoi, who played Shirani, the leader of the Baloch United Force (BUF) and an arms maker. In an exclusive interaction with ETimes, he talked about how he joined and his experience working with Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh.

While interacting with ETimes, Bimal Oberoi was asked about his first reaction when he was offered the role. The actor said: “Me career ke uss mod pe tha, jaha pe me kuch pick karu aise nahi tha.”
He pointed out that if the role was for only one scene, he would have rejected it.

“When this call came from Mukesh Chhabra’s office, I was told that this is a very important person. It (filming) could take 10-15 or 20 days,” Oberoi added. He revealed that the casting director’s office told him that Aditya Dhar had approved his photos. Bimal Oberoi revealed that the test took about 1-1.5 hours. This was repeated two or three times, and then he got the part.
The actor said he was hoping he would come on board. “Because I knew if I played this role, I would be really lucky,” he said.

During the conversation about Aditya Dhar, Bimal Oberoi described Dhurandhar: The Revenge as a ‘landmark’ film. Oberoi went on to add it to the list of other notable films like ‘Gadar’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun?’, ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Sholay’ and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’.Oberoi said, “Aditya Dhar is very young and does not belong to the industry. He is an outsider, but he knows the pulse well. He knows the technique well. He knows the craft well.”He said, “Mazak nahi hota, back-to-back tin chaar mahine me, even if you do films together, aap aisi do filmein dede! Aur itne saare gaane dede (It’s no joke – back-to-back in three-four months, even if you do films together, you are doing two such films! And you are doing a lot of songs too)!”Oberoi went on to add, “I feel like Aditya Dhar was given the freedom, and he took it, because at some point I think everyone decided to let him do what he wanted, because he was so into it and knew what he was doing.”Praising further, Bimal Oberoi said that Aditya Dhar brought all the ‘Dhurandhar’ from his fields on board to form a team to work on the project.Oberoi stated that Aditya Dhar has managed to aptly incorporate different songs from different genres and eras into the song. Oberoi shared, “This is not happening, like ek din uthe, eureka moment hogaya ki me yeh gana idhar dalunga (This is not happening – it’s like you wake up one day and suddenly have a eureka moment where you say ‘I’m going to put this song here’).”“This only happens when you are in a film, in the process of making that film for years,” Oberoi added. Dhurandhar’s Shirani said that Aditya Dhar fulfilled all the requirements of a hit film, besides working on his craft. He said, “Yeh koi Dhurandhar hi kar sakta hai. Woh Dhurandhar director hai. Unka naam Aditya DhuranDHAR hojana chahiye (Only the real Dhurandhar can do this. He is director Dhurandhar. His name should become Aditya DhuranDHAR).”
