Rapper and singer Badshah has sparked a fresh controversy after the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) issued a summons over the allegedly objectionable lyrics in his recently released Haryanvi song ‘Tateeree’.
The song, which was released earlier this week, has drawn criticism from some quarters who claim that its content is inappropriate and goes against cultural values and modesty. The Committee took note of the issue on its own initiative, expressing concern about the potential impact of such lyrics, especially on women and younger listeners. The committee decided to intervene after receiving multiple complaints about the song, reflecting growing public concern about the tone and messages of some contemporary compositions.
HSCW Chairman Renu Bhatia confirmed that action had been initiated, noting that such content could impact young audiences in a negative way.According to the official notification issued on March 6, the case names Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Pratik Singh Sisodia, as the main defendant. The summons has been addressed to the Superintendent of Police, Panipat, directing the authorities to ensure the attendance of all concerned parties in the hearing.
The committee has scheduled the matter to be held on March 13, 2026, at 11:30 am at the conference hall of the DC office in Panipat, with Renu Bhatia appointed to preside over the proceedings. The complaints were filed by Savita Arya, president of Nari Tu Narayani Uthan Samiti in Panipat, and Shiv Kumar, director of Shiv Aarti Foundation of India. Both complainants alleged that the lyrics of Tateeree’s song contained objectionable language and sexual references that objectified women and minors.
They called on the authority to take strict measures and hold accountable those responsible for producing content that, in their view, exceeds social and moral limits.Addressing this issue, Renu Bhatia also asked how the song would pass regulatory scrutiny before its release. Drawing on her experience as a former member of the film censorship board for three years, she raised concerns about how potentially offensive material gained approval.
“It is important to understand how such words pass regulatory scrutiny, especially when they affect public morality and cultural sensitivity,” Reno told ANI.Tateeree is a Haryanvi hip hop song released on 1 March 2026, performed by Badshah with vocalist Simran Jaglan. The lyrics were written by Badshah himself, while Hiten composed and produced the music. The song combines modern rap with regional musical influences, and its official music video was directed by directors Mahe Sandhu and Joban Sandhu.
