Leading international and domestic artificial intelligence (AI) companies signed the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments at the India-AI Impact Summit, a guiding, voluntary framework under which they agreed to work on evaluating AI systems for global conditions. To counter the concentration of technology in the hands of a few.

According to the pledges, the companies agreed on two broad commitments: focusing on early analysis of real-world AI usage and strengthening multi-language and use-case evaluations. Among the companies that have signed the commitments are Google, OpenAI, Meta, Anthropic, Microsoft, Sarvam, Gnani, Bharatgen and Soket AI, among many international and domestic firms.

“Leading cross-border AI companies, along with India’s innovators, have pledged voluntary commitments for inclusive and responsible AI. These will focus on strengthening multilingual, contextual AI evaluations to support evidence-based policy-making on jobs, skills and economic transformation. This represents a major step towards a powerful, inclusive and globally relevant AI that puts India at the forefront of the Global South’s perspective on AI governance,” Kendra said. According to the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, participating companies will evaluate multilingual capabilities on a subset of languages ​​and cultural contexts, while maintaining flexibility over the choice of tools, benchmarks, and al systems to prioritize for this task. They collaborate with local ecosystems for the development and application of assessments for underrepresented languages ​​and cultural contexts.

“Participating organizations recognize that cross-language support will help democratize Al and aspire to improve Al performance and high-quality experiences for users around the world. Additionally, they recognize the value of partnering with governments and local ecosystems that have or can develop datasets and expertise,”

The signatory companies also recognize that creating greater measures of where and how Al is spreading across the global economy will help: shed light on the future of work and human-Al collaboration; support the development of evidence-based policy making in areas such as workforce development and education; enable meaningful comparison over time; and help early adoption and opportunity.

Participating organizations work to improve analysis of global al adoption for economic benefits. By the next AI Summit, they have pledged to publish statistical insights derived from anonymized, aggregated and declassified usage data, either directly or (where relevant) through contributions to international efforts.
