Ashwin Dhar aka Arshad Pappu in 'Dhurandhar 2' Decodes How to Portray Dawood Ibrahim's Character By Aditya Dhar

Ever since the release of ‘Dhurandhar 2’, the film has become the talk of the town. While people are yet to finish ‘Dhurandhar’, the sequel was released on March 19 and the box office bells are ringing.

Not to mention, every personality is being talked about on the internet and one of them is Arshad Babu. The role was played by actor Ashwin Dhar, known for his work in films like D-Day and Padmaavat. In a recent interview, Ashwin spoke about the details of the film and praised Aditya Dhar for the way he made Ranveer Singh’s film the lead one. “He started thinking about the ambiguity of research when it comes to real-life characters,” the actor said in an interview with India TV.

“There are two things about the research. I don’t know anything about that, maybe it was him.” [Dawood Ibrahim]… Search jo bhi huya hoga, maybe wo aise the situation mein hoga. (Whatever research should be done, it might have been in such situations.) The second thing is, when the director writes the script, even though the situations and characters are real, but usko ek film mein piro dena aur uske baad uss film ke Narration ko interesting banana aur wo kaise logon ke saamne laaya jaye, wo writer ka kaam hain (to weave it into a film and make the narrative engaging, how is it done) was done. Presenting it to the audience, that’s the writer’s job) jo ki Aditya Dhar ne khud hi film likhi hain (Aditya Dhar wrote the film himself).

Ashwin stressed that although the film draws from real-world elements, the final narrative is shaped by creative interpretation. He said, “Wo uska brilliance hain ki usne dikhaya hai. Usne chahe woh character mein kitna sachcha hai, woh mujhe nahi maloom. (This is his brilliance, which he showed. How much he was true to the character, I don’t know.) Woh shayad research se sach hi ho sakta hai ya nahi bhi ho sakta hai, because at the end of the day eh ek khayal hai.”

(This may be true because of research, or it may not be, because at the end of the day, this is fiction.) Khayal bhi hai, reality ko khayal ko mix karke e khayal hai. (It is fiction, a mixture of reality and fantasy.) But ek cheez zaroor hai ki saare ko bahut realworld mein rakha hai characters. (But one thing is certain, all the characters have been kept very much in the real world.) Toh dawood ko bhi real world main hain… (So dawood has also been kept in the real world).”He further explained that the intention was to avoid exaggeration and instead present the characters in a grounded and believable way. “Dawood chhodiye, koi bhi Gangster ho ya koi bhi ho, bada aadmi ho… bhai jab woh apne ek space mein hote hain toh real hi hote hain. (Leave aside Dawood, any gangster or any powerful person, when they are in their own space, they are real.) Really hot hong na. (They should really be like this, right?) Toh over the top toh ghar pe baat nahi karenge, apne logon se baat nahi karenge.

(They will not talk in an exaggerated manner at home or with their loved ones.) (Aditya has clearly explained to everyone that this is all real, this is the real world.) Fairy tale kiya hai jo bhi, woh theek hai. (The story has been made up, that’s good.) Toh usi hisaab se Dawood ko bhi pesh kiya usne ki ek aadmi kitna weak ho sakta hai. (Accordingly, David is presented in a way that shows how weak a person is.) Uss hisaab se woh weakness rakhi hai usne. (He has kept this vulnerability intact.) Toh woh brilliance hai (This is brilliance.)”
