Jayaram and Kalidas Jayaram’s family drama ‘Ishaq Aairam’ continues its steady theatrical run as it completes 17 days in cinemas. The film manages to stay in the safe zone by appealing to family audiences with its light humor and emotional stories. According to early estimates shared by Sacnilk, the film has collected Rs 7.09 crore worldwide. Out of this, it earned Rs 7.02 lakh as net India and Rs 7.09 lakh as gross India.

Daily numbers show moderate strength

On the 17th day, the film collected Rs 30 lakh and this follows Day 16 Rs 28 lakh and Day 15 Rs 16 lakh.On the 14th day, the film earned Rs 19 lakh while on the 13th it earned Rs 21 lakh. On the 12th day, Rs 27 lakh was collected, and on the 11th day saw Rs 26 lakh. The strongest jump in the second week came on the 10th day, when collections rose to Rs 55,000 followed by Rs 60,000 on the ninth day.

The film started its theatrical run with Rs 60 lakh on the first day and climbed to Rs 85 lakh on the second day and peaked with Rs 1 crore on the third day before settling into an even tempo.Starring Jayaram, Kalidas Jayaram, Sharafuddin and Asha Sarath, the film relies heavily on his performances, especially Jayaram’s.Our ETimes review notes the balance of humor and familiarity in the film’s writing. As the review said, “The script was written by Joud Anthani Joseph and Aravind Rajendran, and follows a familiar pattern of middle-class problems and situational humour.

The film works mainly because it allows Jayaram (Hariharan) to play to his strengths and evoke nostalgia. For example, the widely circulated BGM and Jayaram’s famous expression as Major Sreekumar were used judiciously here, generating laughs from the theatre.

At the same time, the review also notes that the film struggles when it attempts self-referential commentary. “However, it does not offer much that seems new or surprising,” he adds.

The film speaks openly about nepotism and “godfather culture” in the film industry. This becomes even more ironic since the actors are father and son in real life. However, this self-consciousness works against the film as Kalidas Jayaram’s (Ajesh Hariharan) performance seems weak.

Rather than calling into question the “unwanted child” title, his acting sometimes reinforces it.Directed by J. Prajith, Shaqal Aairam shapes up as an unassuming performer that mainly appeals to family viewers who enjoy simple, relatable narratives.Disclaimer: Box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from various public and industry sources.
