Director AR Murugadoss is facing allegations from the producer of Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharaasi regarding massive budget overrun. The producer claims that the cost of the film escalated from Rs 110 crore to Rs 170 crore due to poor planning. The producer is demanding compensation of Rs 10 crore or Murugadoss will write the script of ‘Ramana 2’ for free.

Produced under the direction of AR Murugadoss and titled Sivakarthikeyan, ‘Madharaasi’ was a sensation at the time of its release. This action artist allegedly earned the following revenues: The reported box office collection was around Rs 120 crore.

The producer allegedly increased the budget of the film Madharaasi

After the film’s release, the production company Sri Lakshmi Prasad reportedly raised serious allegations against director AR Murugadoss. According to CineUlagam, the producer has filed a complaint with the producers’ board, claiming that the film’s budget has increased beyond the original plan. According to the complaint, Murugadoss conveyed that the film would be produced on a budget of Rs 110 crore, but spent around Rs 170 crore on the final production.

The plaintiff alleged that the cost overrun was due to lack of planning and execution, which resulted in inefficient time on set and losses incurred by the production house.

‘Madharaasi’ producer seeks compensation from AR Murugadoss

In the complaint, the producer apparently asked AR Murugadoss to pay Rs 10 crore as compensation for the losses. According to reports, the other option suggested to Murugadoss was to write the story and script for Ramana 2 (Telugu version) and hand over the rights of the film to the production house.

It is reported that after that, some negotiations took place between the parties concerned to resolve the problem.

During these discussions, an agreement appears to have been reached allowing Murugadoss to take over the script writing of ‘Ramana 2’ and give it to the film’s producer without any remuneration. Although no idea about the truth has been confirmed yet, it has become a hot topic of discussion in the Tamil film circuit.
