Annu Kapoor has clarified her controversial ‘dudhiya badan’ remark about Tamannaah Bhatia, explaining that it was an innocent compliment during a discussion about Stree 2’s Aaj Ki Raat. She said the language caused a backlash, stressed the difference between liking and desire, and expressed her willingness to apologize if she felt hurt.
Bollywood actor Annu Kapoor, who faced backlash last year over his comments about Tamannaah Bhatia’s appearance, has now clarified his statement and given the context.
Annu Kapoor’s statement about Tamannaah Bhatia has sparked backlash
The spat started during an earlier interaction with Shubhankar Mishra, when Annu spoke about Tamannaah’s performance in Aaj Ki Raat and said, “Mashallah kya dudhiya badan hai (Oh my God, what a milky body),” a comment that quickly went viral and sparked mixed reactions online.
Annu Kapoor explains the context behind his comment
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actor explained the circumstances that led to his remark. “Last year I had shows in America. I told our creative team that the contestants are good, so they suggested a googly song. Then they played this song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’. I said the composition is very good. They said the song is very popular but the contestants won’t be able to sign up for it, so it could be a googly song because ‘mukhda’ doesn’t land completely,” he said.
I asked them to show me the video. I watched her and said she dances very well. And that’s all that happened.”
Annu Kapoor reacts to backlash and linguistic debate
In response to the strong criticism that followed, Anu asserted that the controversy was amplified by the language used. He said, “Some people abused me for it, and some said that the phrase ‘milky body’ is also used in English. If you say it in English, it’s okay, but in Hindi it becomes a problem. The abuse in our language has a stronger impact, but if you say the same thing in English, no one will have a problem.”
If I had said “milky body” there would have been no problem.
How old is she? 28, 30? My kids are at this age. “Just because I said ‘dhiya badan’, people started calling me the old man and making fun of me.”
Annu Kapoor draws a line between appreciation and intention
He stressed the difference between appreciation and intent, noting that complimenting a person’s appearance should not be mistaken for inappropriate desire or motives. He shared: “Even if I notice someone’s body, I appreciate fitness, but I don’t desire it.
I have no lust for that person. These are different things. I can appreciate your Rolls Royce, but I don’t have to want it or feel greedy for it.
“
Annu Kapoor says he is open to apology
Anu added that he is ready to stand by his words and apologize if necessary. “If you asked me if I said that, I would say yes, I did. If I felt bad, I would touch your feet. If a 71-year-old man touched her feet, what would you say? Nothing, because I’m not doing it with any wrong intention.”
Annu Kapoor’s podcast statements expand the discussion
In a conversation on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, soon after Annu Kapoor’s ‘dudhiya badan’ comment on Tamannaah Bhatia, the host mentioned Tamannaah’s remark about babies sleeping on her song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’, which further led the discussion. In response, Anu said, “At what age do babies sleep? A 70-year-old can also be a baby. I was going to ask her this question.” He continued in the same vein, adding: “Our sister makes the children sleep with her song, with her milky face and body, if she makes our children sleep soundly, that is very good, man… It will be a great blessing for this country if our children get a good, healthy sleep at night.”
If she has any other wishes, may God grant her the ability to fulfill her wishes. This is my blessing for her.”
