What type of cancer does Amanda Peet have?

As we previously reported, Amanda was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer, which requires undergoing a “lumpectomy and radiation, not a double mastectomy or chemotherapy,” as the actress noted in her March 2026 post.

Fortunately, the tumor her doctor found in her breast was “small,” but Amanda still had to have an MRI to “determine the extent of the disease.”

The doctor specifically told her that she was “hormone receptor positive and HER2 negative,” which is when cancer cells in the breast do not have high levels of the human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) protein, which would increase cancer growth, according to the Mayo Clinic.

“You’d think I’d just taken ecstasy,” Amanda joked. “I was happier than I had been before the diagnosis, when I was just a normal person without cancer. But after about ten minutes, I remembered I still needed an MRI and regressed to basic terror.”
