A seaplane carrying eight people crashed into New York City’s East River on Sunday, prompting a major emergency response, the New York Post reported.Videos from the scene showed the plane floating in the river with one of its wings submerged as rescue teams rushed to evacuate passengers.
According to the New York Post, the seaplane made a hard landing in choppy waters shortly after 12 p.m. and partially flipped over.All eight people on board were rescued by the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). Officials said two passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene.The accident occurred near the Manhattan Ferry and Skyport station along 23rd Street and FDR Drive.After the rescue, the crew turned the plane upright in the water before towing it back to the docks. At least five boats participated in the response, while another seaplane was seen nearby.The police opened an investigation into the causes of the accident.The accident comes less than a month after another seaplane was rescued from the East River after it was struck by a wave while taking off near the Throg Neck Bridge, the New York Post reported.
